This UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the most important bird sanctuaries in the world, serving as a massive breeding ground for millions of migratory birds. The shallow coastal waters and mudflats also support a diverse marine life, including dolphins and sea turtles.
Access. Access is primarily via 4x4 from Nouakchott or Nouadhibou; boat excursions are organized by local Imraguen fishermen who provide traditional sailing experiences.
Notes. Strict conservation rules apply; visitors must register at the park entrance. Avoid disturbing nesting sites during the breeding season.

Located in the Senegal River Delta, this park is a vital sanctuary for migratory waterbirds and West African manatees. It offers a unique wetland ecosystem where desert landscapes meet lush riverine habitats, attracting ornithologists and wildlife enthusiasts from around the globe.
Access. Accessible by 4x4 vehicle from Rosso or Saint-Louis, with boat tours available through the park's waterways to observe bird colonies and manatee habitats.
Notes. Best visited between November and March when migratory bird populations are at their peak. Hiring a local guide is essential for navigating the delta safely.
