The vibe
Spotting puffins and grey seals unfolds quietly from bobbing inflatable boats or wind-swept offshore islets, far from the commercial spectacle of major continental reserves. Mid-summer is the only time to catch seabird colonies nesting densely on the granite stacks before they head back out to the open ocean. The whole experience feels refreshingly unmanaged and local, requiring you to simply book a local skipper and head out with a pair of binoculars.

The waters surrounding the island of Sark are part of a protected marine environment known for frequent sightings of Atlantic grey seals and occasional pods of bottlenose dolphins. The dramatic, cliff-lined coast provides a spectacular backdrop for observing marine mammals in their natural habitat.
Access. Visitors can take a ferry from Guernsey to Sark and join local boat tours or kayak excursions that navigate the island's caves and coastal inlets.
Notes. Seals are often spotted basking on the rocks at low tide; always use a licensed operator to ensure wildlife disturbance is minimized.
