The vibe
Observing wildlife here is defined by the constant, cheeky presence of wild macaques that treat the entire upper rock as their personal domain. Spring is the best time to visit when the migratory birds are active and the flora is in full bloom. It feels like a chaotic, unscripted encounter where the animals are clearly the ones in charge of the territory.

Famous for being home to Europe's only wild population of Barbary macaques, this reserve spans the upper ridge of the Rock of Gibraltar. Visitors can observe these tailless primates in their natural limestone habitat while enjoying panoramic views across the Strait to Africa.
Access. Accessible on foot, by cable car, or via authorized taxi tours departing from Gibraltar town center.
Notes. Do not feed or touch the macaques, and keep bags securely closed as they can be aggressive when looking for food.
