Access. Accessible via 4x4 vehicle from the Trans-Gambia Highway; guided tours are highly recommended for navigating the park's interior.
Notes. Best visited during the dry season (November to May) when wildlife congregates around water sources.
River Gambia National Park

Comprising a group of islands known as the Baboon Islands, this park is famous for its chimpanzee rehabilitation project. Visitors can observe these primates and other wildlife like hippos and crocodiles from the safety of a boat cruising along the river.
Access. Access is restricted to boat tours; visitors can arrange excursions from nearby towns like Janjanbureh.
Notes. Landing on the islands is prohibited to protect the primate habitats; viewing is strictly from the water.
Tanji Bird Reserve

This coastal reserve is a vital sanctuary for migratory birds and a hotspot for birdwatchers. The mix of lagoons, dunes, and coastal scrub attracts a vast array of species, including terns, gulls, and various raptors.
Access. Easily accessible by road from the coastal resort areas; walking trails lead through the reserve.
Notes. Early morning or late afternoon are the best times for bird activity.
