    This high-altitude plateau is a rare wilderness area in Belgium characterized by peat bogs and heathland. It is a sanctuary for unique wildlife, including the elusive black grouse and the reintroduced Eurasian beaver.

    Access. Visitors can access the area via designated boardwalks and guided nature walks to protect the fragile ecosystem.

    Notes. Strict stay-on-path rules apply to protect the sensitive bog environment; some areas require a guide.

    Known as the international airport for migratory birds, this coastal nature reserve features a unique salt marsh habitat. It is a premier destination for birdwatchers to observe thousands of birds that stop here during their migration along the North Sea coast.

    Access. Accessible via walking trails and observation hides from the visitor center near Knokke-Heist.

    Notes. Best visited during spring and autumn migration periods; binoculars are highly recommended.

    Access. Multiple entry gates provide access to a network of well-marked trails for hiking and cycling.

    Notes. Early morning or late evening visits increase the chances of spotting larger mammals.
