Hunting beneath the surface with a speargun is not a recreational activity visitors can pursue here, given the strict maritime safety laws and heavy commercial shipping traffic. The waters surrounding the island are heavily regulated port zones rather than open hunting grounds, leaving no room for a visiting spearfishing culture. Anyone hoping to stalk fish on breath-hold will find zero infrastructure, guides, or legal openings for the sport.

The Southern Islands, including Pulau Hantu and St John's Island, offer a unique, albeit challenging, urban spearfishing environment. Hunters target reef species like snapper and grouper amidst the artificial and natural reef structures that thrive in these protected channels.
Access. Access is primarily DIY via private boat charters departing from Marina South Pier or West Coast Pier. There are no dedicated spearfishing shops, so travelers must bring their own equipment and arrange a fishing-friendly private charter.
Notes. Spearfishing is legal in Singapore waters, but strictly prohibited within Marine Protected Areas and designated no-fishing zones. Always check the latest NParks regulations for specific island exclusions and ensure you have a valid fishing permit if required for certain zones.
