Malta's limestone coast and surrounding islets offer rocky reef shelves, caves, and clear Mediterranean water with dentex, grouper, bream, and octopus. The islands have an active shore- and boat-spearfishing scene reachable from multiple harbours.
Access. Very DIY-friendly: shore entries from rocky coastlines on Malta and Gozo are common; no dedicated charter industry but local freedive shops and clubs are active. Easy ferry access between islands expands huntable coastline.
Notes. No spearfishing licence required for visitors. Freediving only—SCUBA spearfishing and night hunting are illegal. Banned in marine conservation areas, bathing zones, archaeological zones, and wreck reserves. EU minimum sizes apply; catch may not be sold.
