    Part of the Grenadines, Carriacou features clear, vibrant reefs and dramatic underwater topography that provide excellent hunting grounds for reef fish like grouper and snapper. The island's remote nature ensures less pressure on the reefs, offering a more pristine experience for the dedicated spear-fisher.

    Access. Access is best achieved by hiring local boatmen from Hillsborough who are familiar with the surrounding cays and offshore pinnacles. There are no dedicated spearfishing shops, so visitors must bring their own equipment and coordinate directly with local fishing guides.

    Notes. Spearfishing must be done via freediving. Ensure you are not hunting within designated marine parks or no-take zones surrounding the island. A visitor fishing permit may be required; consult the Carriacou Fisheries office upon arrival.

Travelers should specifically request spearfishing-capable captains who provide the necessary safety support for bluewater hunting.

    Notes. Spearfishing is legal in Grenada, but visitors must adhere to local marine protected area regulations. It is strictly prohibited to use scuba gear while spearfishing; breath-hold only. Always check with the Fisheries Division regarding current seasonal closures for specific species.
