Access. Typically visited via day-trip boat charters departing from nearby South Tarawa.

Butaritari Atoll Lagoon

The lush northern atoll of Butaritari features calm, warm lagoon waters and flourishing coral heads surrounded by abundant small reef fish. It provides a relaxed, untouched setting for snorkelers seeking pristine tropical shallows.
Access. Accessed via local boat transport arranged through community contacts or specialized outer-island itineraries.
Notes. Very remote; bring your own gear as rental shops are absent.
Tarawa Lagoon Reefs

Tarawa Lagoon offers expansive, crystal-clear shallows and vibrant coral patch reefs teeming with reef fish and rays. Snorkelers can easily explore sheltered spots close to the shore or take local boat excursions across the vast atoll waters.

Notes. Mind the strong tidal currents flowing through the reef passes between the atoll islets.
