The vibe
Pristine waters around the rocky fringes offer surprisingly clear visibility when the Atlantic swells settle down. Late summer is the prime window, as the sea warms just enough for extended splashing among shallow reefs and kelp beds. It is an entirely self-guided affair where you simply pick a sheltered cove on a calm day and slip straight from the sand into the shallows.

Fermain Bay is a sheltered, pebble-and-sand cove known for its exceptionally clear water and vibrant marine life. Snorkelers can explore the rocky outcrops on either side of the bay, which are teeming with wrasse, pollack, and occasional spider crabs.
Access. Accessible via a scenic cliff path walk from St. Peter Port or by boat. There is a popular beach cafe on-site, and snorkeling is easily done directly from the shore.
Notes. Best visited at high tide for easier entry and exit over the pebbles.
