Nurtau Ski Resort

Situated in the East Kazakhstan region near Ust-Kamenogorsk, Nurtau is a popular regional destination known for its well-groomed slopes and family-friendly atmosphere. It features a variety of runs suited for intermediate skiers and is a hub for the local winter sports community in the Altai foothills.
Access. Located about 30km from Ust-Kamenogorsk. Visitors fly into Ust-Kamenogorsk Airport and take a taxi or shuttle to the resort base.
Notes. Best snow conditions are typically found between January and March.

Ridder is a gateway to the Altai Mountains, offering some of the best deep-powder skiing and backcountry touring in Kazakhstan. The region is characterized by vast, untouched wilderness and steep terrain that attracts serious backcountry enthusiasts and freeriders.
Access. Accessible via a flight to Ust-Kamenogorsk followed by a 2-hour drive to Ridder. Local guides are highly recommended for navigating the remote backcountry.
Notes. High avalanche risk in the Altai mountains; professional guiding is essential for backcountry excursions.
Shymbulak Mountain Resort

Nestled in the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains, Shymbulak offers high-altitude skiing just a short distance from Almaty. The resort features a mix of groomed runs and access to vast, challenging off-piste terrain for experienced riders.
Access. Fly into Almaty International Airport (ALA), then take a 30-minute taxi or public transport to the Medeu skating rink, followed by the gondola up to the resort.
Notes. The resort reaches altitudes over 3,000 meters, so visitors should be mindful of altitude sickness.
