False Bay serves as Cape Town's premier sailing playground, offering sweeping coastal runs backed by dramatic mountain ranges. The waters provide a mix of sheltered day-sailing in the northern corners and challenging, high-wind tactical racing further south toward Cape Point. Sailors enjoy views of marine life, including whales and seals, alongside iconic landmarks like Table Mountain.
Access. Yacht clubs and marinas are based in Simon's Town, Kalk Bay, and Gordon's Bay.
Notes. Strong south-easterly summer winds ('Cape Doctor') provide exhilarating sailing but demand reefing and careful boat handling.
Garden Route Coastal Waters

Access. Major charter and marina facilities are accessible out of Mossel Bay and Knysna Lagoon.
Notes. Best sailed between October and March. Requires careful tide management at lagoon bars and vigilance regarding sudden souteroasters.
