The vibe
Taking to the water by sail is practically nonexistent for foreign visitors due to the total absence of bareboat charter fleets and marina infrastructure. The sprawling waters are left entirely to traditional wooden dhows and commercial vessels rather than recreational cruisers. You can admire the maritime culture from the docks, but setting sail yourself as a tourist is not an option.

Kish Island offers the most developed sailing infrastructure in Iran, with a focus on small-craft sailing and coastal cruising in the Persian Gulf. The waters around the island are popular for recreational sailing, providing a unique vantage point of the island's resort-lined coast.
Access. Visitors can access sailing services through the Kish Marina, which hosts several local sailing clubs and recreational boat operators offering charters.
Notes. Best sailed during the cooler months from October to April; strong winds can occasionally occur in the summer.

The waters surrounding Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz provide a rugged coastal cruising environment. Sailors explore the unique geological formations of the island's coastline and the nearby Hara Forest mangroves, navigating the tidal channels of the Persian Gulf.
Access. Access is primarily through local boat operators in Qeshm City who facilitate coastal excursions and sailing trips around the island's perimeter.
Notes. Tidal currents in the Strait of Hormuz are significant; local knowledge or a professional skipper is highly recommended.
