As the largest lake in Central Europe, Lake Balaton is the premier sailing destination in Hungary. It offers reliable winds and a well-developed infrastructure of marinas and yacht clubs along its elongated basin, making it a hub for both recreational cruising and competitive regattas.
Access. The lake is easily accessible from Budapest. Major sailing hubs and charter bases are located in Balatonfüred, Siófok, and Keszthely, where visitors can rent keelboats or participate in sailing schools.
Notes. Sailing season runs from May to October. The lake is generally shallow, and local weather services provide essential storm warnings for sailors.

Known as the 'sunshine lake', Lake Velence is a popular, shallower sailing ground located between Budapest and Lake Balaton. It is favored for its calm conditions and proximity to the capital, making it ideal for day sailing and small-craft training.
Access. Access is primarily through the town of Gárdony or Velence, which host several sailing clubs and boat rental facilities catering to visitors.
Notes. Due to its shallow depth, it is best suited for dinghies and smaller keelboats. It is a very popular weekend destination for local sailors.

Tisza Lake offers a more natural, sprawling sailing environment compared to the developed shores of Balaton. It features a mix of open water basins and intricate channels, providing a unique cruising experience for those seeking a quieter, nature-focused sailing trip.
Access. The main sailing activity is centered around the Abádszalók and Tiszafüred areas, where marinas and boat rental services are available for visitors.
Notes. The lake is part of a protected nature area, so sailors should be mindful of designated navigation zones and environmental regulations.
