The Mamanuca Islands offer a quintessential tropical cruising ground with short, protected passages between volcanic islands and coral reefs. It is a premier destination for sailors seeking turquoise lagoons, consistent trade winds, and easy island-hopping within a compact archipelago.
Access. Charter yachts and catamaran cruises depart primarily from Port Denarau Marina on the main island of Viti Levu.
Notes. Best sailing season is May to October. Navigation requires careful attention to reef charts and tide tables.
Savusavu and Natewa Bay

Savusavu serves as the primary gateway to the northern cruising grounds of Vanua Levu, known for its deep, protected harbor and access to the pristine waters of Natewa Bay. The area is a favorite for long-term cruisers and those looking to explore the less-traveled northern Fijian coast.
Access. Savusavu is a major port of entry for international yachts, with local moorings and marina facilities available at Copra Shed Marina.
Notes. Hurricane season is November to April; cruisers should plan accordingly. Excellent shelter in the deep volcanic harbor.
Yasawa Islands

Stretching north from the Mamanucas, the Yasawa chain provides a more rugged and remote archipelago sailing experience. Sailors navigate through dramatic volcanic peaks and secluded bays, enjoying longer stretches of open-water sailing combined with sheltered island anchorages.
Access. Accessible via bareboat or skippered charters starting from Port Denarau; some vessels also offer multi-day flotilla-style itineraries.
Notes. More exposed to ocean swells than the Mamanucas; requires experienced navigation due to limited infrastructure in the northern reaches.
