The dry season provides the most reliable wind patterns, whereas the wet season offers more variable conditions. Charter options abound, yet local sailing clubs also welcome seasoned sailors, creating a blend of organized and independent trips.

Cruising the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere offers sheltered turquoise waters, coral atolls, and picturesque island stops like San Pedro and Caye Caulker. Sailors enjoy line-of-sight navigation between hundreds of mangrove cays, shallow sandbars, and world-class marine reserves.
Access. Bareboat and crewed yacht charters operate primarily out of marinas near Belize City and Placencia.
Notes. Best sailed between November and May during the trade wind season. Watch out for shallow coral heads and reef passes.

The southern waters of Belize provide a quieter, less-trafficked cruising ground dotted with secluded coral cays, pristine beaches, and rich marine life. Sailors can island-hop through the Laughing Bird Caye and Gladden Spit areas, enjoying relaxed anchorages and excellent diving access.
Access. Charters and flotillas launch from Placencia Peninsula harbors and local boat basins.
Notes. Trade winds blow steady from the east; careful piloting is required around the inner barrier reef patches.
