The vibe
Paddling takes you through tranquil Caspian lagoons, winding delta channels, and the mangrove creeks of the southern gulf islands. Spring and autumn deliver the most favorable winds and temperatures for spending days on the water. It is an entirely self-reliant pursuit, as you will need to source your own watercraft and navigate logistics independently.
Anzali Lagoon

Anzali Lagoon is a vast, scenic freshwater wetland near the Caspian Sea, famous for its sprawling lotus fields and diverse aquatic bird species. Kayaking provides a quiet, non-intrusive way to glide through the reeds and observe the local ecosystem.
Access. Kayaks can be rented from local boatmen and small eco-tourism cooperatives near the Anzali port area, which offer guided paddling excursions into the quieter sections of the lagoon.
Notes. Spring and early summer are the best times to see the lotus flowers in full bloom; water levels are generally stable.
Chabahar Coastal Cliffs

The rugged coastline of Chabahar along the Gulf of Oman features dramatic rock formations and secluded coves that are ideal for sea kayaking. Paddlers can explore the unique Martian-like landscape from the water, offering a perspective inaccessible by land.

Notes. The Indian Ocean swell can be significant; check local weather and tide reports before launching.
Qeshm Island Mangroves

The Hara Forest on Qeshm Island offers a unique tidal mangrove ecosystem that is best explored by kayak. Paddlers navigate narrow channels through the submerged trees, observing diverse birdlife and the unique coastal landscape of the Persian Gulf.
Access. Local kayak operators and eco-tours are available in the Laft and Tabl villages, providing equipment rentals and guided tours through the protected mangrove channels.
Notes. Best visited during high tide to ensure water depth in the channels; avoid summer months due to extreme heat.
