The vibe
Malta's limestone ridges and coastal paths give a compact, Mediterranean feel, unlike long alpine treks. The best weather for walking is in spring or autumn when the heat is mild. You’ll find a mix of locals strolling and small groups of tourists, keeping the vibe fairly low‑key.

Follow the 19th-century British fortifications across the spine of Malta on this historic ridge trail. The path offers sweeping panoramic views over both the northern and southern valleys of the island, combining rugged terrain with military heritage. It is an ideal moderate day hike for exploring Malta's inland topography away from the beach resorts.
Access. The trail spans across the island from Madliena in the east to Fomm ir-Riħ in the west, with multiple accessible bus-connected trailheads.
Notes. Some sections are rocky and exposed; carry sufficient water as shade is limited along the ridge.
