Hiking in Kuwait
Including Al Abdali Farmland Region and Al Jahra Nature Reserve. On the map.
The vibe
Walking here means tackling open desert expanses and low gravel ridges under vast skies rather than wooded mountain trails. The cooler months between late autumn and early spring offer the only genuinely comfortable window for heading out on foot. It feels entirely local and self-guided, as there is no established trekking infrastructure or crowd of fellow hikers to navigate.
Al Abdali Farmland Region
Jahra Governorate

The northern reaches of Kuwait feature extensive agricultural landscapes that offer long, flat walking routes through date palm groves and experimental farms. These paths provide a stark contrast to the desert, offering a green, rural hiking experience for those seeking quiet, open-air exercise.
Access. Accessible by private vehicle from Kuwait City, heading north toward the Iraqi border; many farms are private, so stick to public access roads and designated farm-stay trails.
Notes. Ensure you have permission if entering private farm property; carry ample water as shade is limited.

This protected wetland area offers a unique opportunity to explore Kuwait's coastal biodiversity through elevated boardwalks and designated walking paths. It is a prime destination for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts looking for a peaceful, low-effort stroll through reed beds and salt marshes.
Access. Located near the city of Al Jahra, visitors can reach the reserve by car; access usually requires prior coordination or booking through the Public Environment Authority.
Notes. Best visited during the cooler months from November to March; summer temperatures are extreme and unsafe for outdoor activity.
