The vibe
This is raw, vertical terrain where the humidity clings to the dense rainforest canopy and every path leads to a waterfall or a steaming volcanic vent. You want to arrive during the drier months from February to May to keep the mud from turning the steep inclines into a slip-and-slide. The experience is deeply DIY, requiring you to navigate rugged, unmanicured trails that feel like you are hacking through the interior of a wild, forgotten island.

Access. Accessible from Roseau by taxi or rental car. Several trailheads begin near Trafalgar or Laudat, with park entry permits required.
Notes. Trails can be extremely muddy and slippery following heavy tropical downpours; proper footwear and rain gear are essential.
