Hiking in Antigua and Barbuda

Including Barbuda Highland and Codrington Trail and Mount Obama (Boggy Peak) Trail. On the map.

The vibe

Hiking in Antigua feels like strolling through a tropical garden with gentle coastal views, far from the rugged backcountry of larger islands. The dry months from December to April offer the most comfortable footing. Travelers find the trails quiet, mostly self‑guided, and enjoyed by locals as well as visitors.

A remote and peaceful walking route across the flat limestone tablelands and scrub forests of Barbuda. Walkers explore untouched wilderness areas, ancient caves, and isolated pink-sand shores. This is an ideal low-intensity trek for travelers seeking total solitude in nature.

Access. Reached via the Barbuda Express ferry or a short flight from Antigua to Codrington, then local guides or foot exploration.

Notes. Very limited shade and tourist infrastructure along the trails; carrying a GPS or local guide is recommended.

  • Mount Obama (Boggy Peak) Trail

    Antigua

Climb to the highest point in Antigua and Barbuda through dense tropical foliage and lush forested slopes. The trail offers rewarding panoramic views across the island's southern landscape and sparkling coastline. It is a moderately challenging day hike that immerses trekkers in the island's rich greenery.

Access. The trailhead is located near Fig Tree Drive in the island's southern interior; easily reached by rental car or taxi from St. John's.

Notes. Paths can be muddy and slippery after heavy tropical showers; sturdy footwear is strongly recommended.
