Con Dao offers some of the most vibrant coral reefs in Vietnam, with deep channels and walls surrounding the archipelago. The remote nature of these islands ensures less boat traffic and clearer water conditions for dedicated freedivers.
Access. Accessible by flight or ferry from the mainland. Several dive centers on the main island offer boat excursions to the outer islets.
Notes. Strong currents can occur in the channels; always check with local dive operators before heading out.

Hon Mun Island

Hon Mun is the premier marine protected area in Nha Trang, offering clear water and a protected reef ecosystem. Freedivers frequent the area for its diverse coral formations and calm, sheltered bays which are ideal for training and underwater photography.
Access. Numerous freediving schools and tour operators in Nha Trang offer daily boat trips to the island. Gear rental is widely available in the city.

Located in the serene Van Phong Bay, this area features excellent water visibility and a relaxed atmosphere away from urban centers. The topography includes shallow reefs that drop off into deeper sandy bottoms, perfect for breath-hold exploration.
Access. Accessible via boat transfers from the mainland port near Van Ninh. Local eco-resorts facilitate boat access to nearby dive sites.
Notes. Best visited during the dry season from March to August for optimal visibility.
