While Gambia is primarily known for its riverine and coastal ecosystems, the Atlantic coastline near the river mouth offers unique, albeit challenging, opportunities for breath-hold exploration. Divers focus on the coastal shelf areas where visibility improves during the dry season, allowing for exploration of the sandy seabed and occasional artificial structures.
Access. Access is limited; travelers should seek out local water sports operators based in the Senegambia area who specialize in organized coastal excursions. It is essential to confirm the presence of dedicated freediving instructors or guides before planning a trip, as the scene is nascent.
