The vibe
Freediving is a fringe activity here, lacking a formal scene or dedicated infrastructure for visitors to plug into. You are mostly on your own to find calm, deep water during the height of summer when the sea is at its most inviting. It feels like a solitary, exploratory endeavor rather than a social or club-based sport.

A dramatic rocky peninsula extending into the Black Sea featuring sheer limestone cliffs and deeper water columns. Freedivers find rewarding wall topography and impressive underwater visibility around the outer headlands.
Access. Reachable by car from Varna or Kavarna, with shore access points managed via local dive guides who lead organized excursions around the protected cape.
Notes. Currents can occasionally sweep around the exposed headland; surface markers are strongly advised.
Golden Sands Natural Park Coast

Forested cliffs cascading down to clear coastal waters create a scenic backdrop for breath-hold diving. The area features sandy bottoms interspersed with rocky reefs that host schools of fish and interesting marine life.
Access. Easily reached just north of Varna through local coastal paths and dive operators stationed along the Golden Sands resort strip.
Nesebar Peninsula

Ancient ruins meet the sea around the rocky shores of Nesebar, offering clear visibility and shallow-to-mid-depth reef structures. Breath-hold divers explore historical artifacts and rocky crevices inhabited by diverse marine fauna.
Access. Directly accessible from the tourist hubs of Nesebar and Sunny Beach, with local dive centers offering dedicated freediving courses and equipment rental.
Notes. Summer tourist boat traffic can be heavy close to the beaches; early morning dives are recommended.
Sozopol Coastal Cliffs

Offering clear Black Sea waters and rocky underwater formations, Sozopol's coastline provides a great environment for breath-hold exploration. Freedivers appreciate the scenic rock gardens and moderate depth profiles reachable from secluded coves.
Access. Easily accessed from the historic town of Sozopol, where seasonal freediving clubs and local breath-hold instructors organize shore dives and training sessions.
Notes. Check local wind conditions and boat traffic near harbor entrances.
Tyulenovo Coast
