World-renowned surf and estuary fishing where dense rainforest meets the Atlantic Ocean. Anglers target massive tarpon, cubera snapper, African threadfin, and giant trevally right in the surf or from specialized boats.
Access. Accessible via specialized eco-lodges and fishing outfitters operating out of Port-Gentil or within the park. Local guides with 4x4 vehicles and surfcasting gear are required due to remote wilderness conditions.
Notes. Catch-and-release is heavily promoted and often mandatory for trophy species like tarpon to preserve the delicate estuarine ecosystem. A park permit and local guide are required.
Mayumba Coastal Waters

Southern Gabonese coastline featuring dramatic surf zones, rocky outcrops, and rich marine upwellings. Renowned for powerful surf-casting and nearshore boat fishing targeting shark, large rays, and various marine game fish.
Access. Accessed via Mayumba town through local beach-launch operations or guided shore-fishing excursions along the Atlantic coast.
Notes. Marine protected areas exist near turtle nesting zones; anglers must verify zoned boundaries. Fishing licenses can be arranged through regional authorities.
Ogooué River Delta
Ogooué-Maritime Province
A vast network of tropical rivers, mangrove creeks, and lagoons providing exceptional freshwater and brackish sport fishing. Target species include tarpon, snapper, barracuda, and various aggressive riverine predators.
Access. Reached via boat charters departing from Port-Gentil or Lambaréné. Guided river safari boats equipped with light tackle and heavy spinning gear are necessary.
Notes. Permits from local fisheries authorities or lodge packages are required. Respect local community fishing zones and conservation guidelines.
