The coastal stretch south of Colombo is the heart of traditional Ceylon Arrack production, where the sap of coconut flowers is fermented and distilled into a distinct, smooth spirit. Travelers can visit historic distilleries to learn about the centuries-old tapping process and participate in guided tastings of premium aged arrack.
Access. Located roughly an hour south of Colombo, accessible by private taxi or the coastal train line to Kalutara South station.
Notes. Distillery tours often require advance booking; visit during the dry season (December to March) for the best experience.
