The vibe
Drinking here centers on slightly tart fermented mare's milk poured from plastic jugs into bowls, alongside strong regional brandies and surprisingly decent local lagers. Summer afternoons in dusty valley settlements call for deep, refreshing draughts of chilled bread kvass poured straight from sidewalk tanks. The vibe is utterly unpretentious, taking place on plastic chairs outside village corner shops among locals passing the evening.

Bishkek has developed a vibrant brewing scene, centered around several modern microbreweries that blend traditional Central Asian hospitality with contemporary craft techniques. Visitors can explore a variety of taprooms that showcase local ingredients and innovative brewing styles in an urban setting.
Access. Located primarily in the city center, easily walkable or reachable by short taxi rides between the main brewing hubs.
Notes. The scene is active year-round, with the best atmosphere during the warmer months when outdoor terraces are open.

Nestled along the shores of the world's second-largest alpine lake, this region is emerging as a unique high-altitude viticulture destination. Travelers visit for the crisp, cool-climate wines produced in the shadow of the Tian Shan mountains, offering a distinct terroir found nowhere else in Central Asia.
Access. Accessible by road from Bishkek, with most boutique vineyards located in the villages surrounding the lake's northern and southern shores.
Notes. Best visited from late spring to early autumn; private transport or guided tours are recommended for visiting scattered vineyards.
