Addis Ababa is the heart of Ethiopia's traditional honey wine culture, known as Tej. Travelers visit specialized 'Tej bet' establishments to experience this ancient fermented beverage served in traditional glass flasks called berele.
Access. Visitors can explore various traditional Tej houses located throughout the Kazanchis and Piassa neighborhoods.
Notes. Best experienced in the late afternoon or early evening; local guides are recommended for navigating traditional spots.
Harar Beer Quarter

Harar is home to the historic Harar Brewery, one of the oldest and most iconic beer producers in Ethiopia. The city offers a unique beer culture where visitors can taste local lagers that reflect the distinct flavors of the Eastern Highlands.
Access. The brewery is located on the outskirts of the historic walled city of Harar, accessible by local transport from the city center.
Notes. Tours of the brewery facilities should be arranged in advance through local tourism offices.
Ziway Rift Valley Wine Region

Located along the shores of Lake Ziway, this emerging wine region benefits from the unique climate of the Great Rift Valley. It is the primary site for commercial viticulture in Ethiopia, where visitors can tour vineyards and taste wines produced from high-altitude grapes.
Access. Located approximately 160km south of Addis Ababa, accessible via the main highway towards Hawassa.
Notes. Vineyard visits are best scheduled during the dry season; private transport from Addis Ababa is the most reliable method.
