The vibe

Swami Rock offers a dramatic underwater landscape with massive boulders and deep crevices that attract a wide array of marine life, including rays and reef sharks. The site is part of the larger Pigeon Island marine area, providing some of the clearest water conditions in the country.
Access. Dive shops in Nilaveli and Trincomalee provide boat access to the reef and rock formations, with trips running throughout the east coast season.
Notes. Best season is May to September.

Weligama Bay offers a variety of shallow and mid-depth reef dives characterized by soft corals and abundant macro life. It is a popular spot for divers looking to explore diverse reef ecosystems and spot sea turtles in a relaxed setting.
Access. Numerous PADI-certified dive shops are located directly along the Weligama beach front, offering daily boat dives to the local reef sites.
Notes. Suitable for all levels; best from November to April.
