As one of the largest barrier reefs in the world, the Astrolabe offers pristine coral gardens and dramatic drop-offs. Divers frequent this area for its high biodiversity, including manta rays and pelagic sightings along the outer reef walls.
Access. Accessible via eco-resorts located on Kadavu Island, which operate dive boats to the various reef sites.

Great White Wall, Taveuni

Famed for its stunning blanket of soft white corals, this vertical drop-off is a world-class wall dive. Divers explore the vibrant reef edge which plunges into the deep blue, often encountering schooling barracuda and reef sharks.
Access. Accessible via dive resorts on Taveuni Island, which provide boat transfers to the Somosomo Strait.
Notes. Strong currents are common; best for intermediate to advanced divers. Seasonal visibility is generally excellent.
Koro Island

Positioned in the Koro Sea between Vanua Levu and Taveuni, Koro Island offers remote, pristine reef diving largely untouched by heavy tourism. Divers encounter dramatic drop-offs, swim-throughs, and deep pinnacles frequented by hammerheads, manta rays, and pelagics. The area is typically visited by Fiji liveaboards or dedicated excursions from neighboring island bases.
Access. Most easily reached via multi-day liveaboard trips departing from major Fijian ports, though some local operators run seasonal charters.

Namena Marine Reserve

Nigali Passage, Gau Island

Notes. Requires advanced drift diving skills due to strong tidal currents.
Vatu-I-Ra Passage, Bligh Water

Situated in the channel between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, the Vatu-I-Ra Passage is world-renowned for its vibrant soft corals and prolific pelagic action. Divers explore colorful bommies, walls, and drift channels teeming with reef sharks, barracuda, and schooling fusiliers. It is accessed via liveaboards and dedicated dive boats operating from the Suncoast or Pacific Harbour.
Access. Bookings are handled through dive resorts along the Suncoast of Viti Levu or specialized Fiji liveaboard itineraries that anchor directly in the passage.
Notes. Currents can be strong, making this prime drift territory suited for intermediate to advanced divers. Best dived year-round.
Wakaya Island Passage

Wakaya Island features sheer underwater walls that drop straight into the deep blue abyss of the Koro Sea.
