Access. Bikes can be rented in Kandy or Ella; local tour operators offer multi-day supported touring packages with luggage transfers.
Notes. Best from December to March. High altitude means cooler temperatures, but expect steep gradients and narrow, winding roads.

A rugged wilderness area featuring dense forests and remote mountain passes that are perfect for gravel and adventure cycling. The trails here offer a raw, off-the-beaten-path experience through one of the island's most biodiverse UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Access. Best accessed via Kandy; requires a guide or a well-planned route as trails are remote and lack signage.
Notes. Requires a mountain bike or gravel bike with wide tires. Heavy rainfall can make trails impassable; visit during the dry season.
Wilpattu Buffer Zone

Cycling the perimeter of Wilpattu National Park offers a unique opportunity to ride through dry-zone forests and past ancient tanks. The gravel tracks here are flat and expansive, providing a serene environment for wildlife spotting while on two wheels.
Access. Best accessed from Anuradhapura; local cycling tour operators organize wildlife-focused cycling excursions.
Notes. Stay on designated paths to avoid wildlife conflicts. Essential to carry plenty of water as the region is hot and arid.
