The vibe
Riding here involves rattling down steep dirt tracks and ancient flagstone paths alongside roaming livestock and local traffic. The dry months from autumn through spring keep the red-clay dust manageable and the mountain passes clear of heavy snow. You navigate the routes mostly on your own, blending in with independent riders tackling rugged backcountry tracks.

A legendary high-altitude expedition traversing rugged mountain tracks, suspension bridges, and dramatic Himalayan gorges. High-altitude adventure biking takes riders up to Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters, offering grueling ascents paired with phenomenal descents.
Access. Accessible via domestic flights to Pokhara, followed by jeep or local bus transport to trailhead towns like Besisahar. Bike rentals and mountain guides are readily available in Kathmandu and Pokhara.
Notes. Best ridden from October to November or March to April. Extreme high altitude, remote terrain, and steep descents require advanced mountain-biking skills and proper acclimatization.

A rugged mountain-biking loop north of Kathmandu featuring pine forests, stone-paved village steps, and flowing ridge singletracks. It offers a remote Himalayan experience within close proximity to the capital.
Access. Accessible via a short drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal or Melamchi, where the trail climbs directly into the mountains.
Notes. Recommended during spring and autumn. Involves steep hike-a-bike sections and technical descents suited for experienced mountain bikers.

Access. Starts directly from Kathmandu, where numerous tour operators offer guided gravel rides, bike rentals, and mechanical support.
Notes. Rideable year-round, though the post-monsoon autumn months offer the clearest mountain views and best trail conditions.

Rolling paved lakeside roads and steep dirt climbs winding up into the Annapurna foothills overlooking Lake Phewa. It serves as a relaxed hub for mixed-surface riding with stunning views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain).
Access. Centred around Pokhara, easily reached via a 30-minute flight or a scenic tourist bus ride from Kathmandu. Excellent local bike shops offer rentals and route advice.
Notes. Great year-round riding climate, though monsoon rains from June to September make dirt tracks slippery.
