The vibe
The countryside’s patchwork of flat farmland and gentle hills makes long rides feel like gliding through a living postcard. Late summer provides long daylight and calm winds, though the roads are rideable year‑round. You’ll share the lanes with locals on farm bikes and occasional tour groups, a relaxed but not overly touristy setting.
Aukštaitija National Park

Known as the land of a thousand lakes, this region offers a network of forest trails and quiet country roads perfect for gravel and touring bikes. The terrain is gently rolling, passing through traditional wooden villages and dense pine forests.
Access. Best accessed from the town of Ignalina; local guesthouses often provide bike storage and rental services.
Notes. Ideal for summer touring; routes can be sandy, so wider tires are recommended.
Curonian Spit National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage site featuring a dedicated, mostly flat cycle path that runs the length of the narrow sandy peninsula. Riders traverse pine forests and massive sand dunes with the Baltic Sea on one side and the Curonian Lagoon on the other.
Access. Accessible by ferry from Klaipėda to Smiltynė; bike rentals are widely available in Nida and Klaipėda.
Notes. Best from May to September; traffic is minimal as the path is largely separated from the main road.
Nemunas River Valley

This route follows the historic Nemunas River, connecting Kaunas to the seaside through a landscape of castles, manor houses, and lush riverbanks. It is a classic touring route that showcases the cultural heritage of the Lithuanian countryside.
Access. Start in Kaunas, which has excellent rail connections and bike shops; the route is well-marked as part of the EuroVelo network.
Notes. Mostly paved or hard-packed gravel; suitable for all levels of touring cyclists.
