Cycling in Falkland Islands
Including East Falkland Coastal Routes and West Falkland Gravel Tracks. On the map.
The vibe
Cycling here is an exercise in resilience, as you navigate gravel tracks that wind through open, treeless landscapes buffeted by constant winds. Summer is the only practical time to attempt these rides, though you should be prepared for rapid shifts in conditions. It feels like a remote expedition where you must be entirely self-sufficient, as there are no bike-specific facilities or support services.

The rolling landscapes of East Falkland offer a unique, remote cycling experience through dramatic moorlands and rugged coastlines. Riders can explore the quiet, paved and gravel roads connecting Stanley to the windswept northern settlements, encountering abundant wildlife along the way.
Access. Bikes can be transported via local flights or ferries; Stanley serves as the primary hub for route planning and support.
Notes. Strong winds are a constant factor; high-visibility gear and self-sufficiency are essential due to sparse services.

West Falkland Gravel Tracks

West Falkland provides a more rugged, off-the-beaten-path experience with extensive gravel tracks winding through dramatic mountain ranges and deep valleys. This region is favored by experienced bike packers looking for solitude and challenging, unpaved terrain.
Access. Access is via the FIGAS inter-island flight service or ferry from East Falkland; limited facilities mean riders must be fully self-supported.
Notes. Best experienced during the austral summer months (November to March) when daylight hours are longest.
