The vibe
Cycling here is a grueling test of stamina against relentless, near-vertical mountain roads that snake through the clouds. The best time to ride is during the cooler, drier mornings early in the year, though you will be sharing the narrow, winding asphalt with local drivers who know every hairpin turn by heart. It is a solitary, self-supported endeavor where you are more likely to encounter a stray goat than another cyclist.

Traverse the rugged volcanic spine of Dominica via challenging gravel tracks and interior roads. The route cuts through dense rainforests, dramatic gorges, and cascading rivers for the adventurous bike traveler.
Access. Accessible from Roseau where mountain bikes and gravel bikes can be rented through local eco-tourism adventure operators.
Notes. Best ridden during the dry season from December to May. Very steep and technical; recommended for experienced off-road cyclists and e-mountain bikers.
