The dry months from December to March are ideal, as the heat is less oppressive and roads are clearer. Riders usually find the journey a mix of local interaction and some tourist spots, but the infrastructure is still developing.

Access. Best approached from Natitingou, where local cycling clubs and guides can assist with route planning and gear logistics.
Notes. Steep gradients and remote sections make this suitable for experienced riders. Carry ample water and check equipment thoroughly before heading out.
Grand-Popo Coastal Route

Access. Accessible from Cotonou by road; mountain bikes or sturdy touring bikes can be hired through local eco-tourism initiatives in Grand-Popo.
Notes. Best ridden during the dry season from November to February. Traffic is light on sandy backroads, but exercise caution on the main paved coastal highway.

Access. Easily reached from Cotonou with short transfers to lakeside tracks. Hybrid and mountain bikes are available for rent in Cotonou.
Notes. Flat terrain with occasional sandy patches. Can be ridden year-round, though early morning starts are recommended to beat the tropical heat.
Pendjari Biosphere Reserve Tracks
