The dry season offers reliable grip and clear skies, while the monsoon makes routes slippery. Climbers tend to be a tight‑knit community, setting up their own gear and swapping beta at informal meet‑ups.

A premier inland sport climbing destination located in the limestone karst formations of the Mae On district. It offers a wide variety of routes, from beginner-friendly slabs to complex, multi-pitch cave climbs.
Access. Located about an hour from Chiang Mai. Local climbing organizations manage the area and provide guide services and gear rentals.
Notes. The area is well-maintained with a strong focus on conservation and ethical bolting practices.
Ko Lao Liang

A remote island destination offering pristine limestone cliffs with high-quality sport routes. It provides a quieter, more exclusive climbing experience compared to the mainland Krabi areas.
Access. Accessible via boat from the Trang province mainland. Visitors typically stay in eco-tents on the beach, with climbing access managed by local concessionaires.
Notes. Limited infrastructure; visitors should be self-sufficient or book through established local climbing tour operators.
Railay and Phra Nang Peninsula

World-renowned limestone karst climbing featuring hundreds of bolted sport routes directly on the beach. Climbers flock here for the unique combination of overhanging tufa climbing and stunning tropical scenery.
Access. Accessible only by longtail boat from Ao Nang or Krabi Town. Numerous climbing schools and gear rental shops operate directly on Railay East.
Notes. Best season is November to April; can be very humid. Bolting is generally high quality, but check for local re-bolting updates.
