The vibe
Chalked hands on limestone cliffs that rise from the sea give a Mediterranean rock feel unlike any other. Cooler months, especially late autumn to early spring, keep the rock comfortable. The scene is low‑key, with locals and visiting climbers self‑organising and no crowds.
Givat Adullam

Givat Adullam is a popular limestone crag known for its accessible, well-bolted sport routes. It is a staple for the Israeli climbing community, offering a variety of grades suitable for training and day trips.
Access. Located in the Judean Lowlands, it is easily reached by car from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem. It is a year-round destination, though best enjoyed in the shoulder seasons.
Notes. High density of moderate sport routes; very popular on weekends.
Shilat Crag

Shilat is a prominent limestone sport climbing area featuring technical face climbing on solid, grey limestone. It is well-regarded for its concentration of challenging routes and proximity to major urban centers.
Access. Located near Modi'in, the crag is easily accessible via a short approach trail. Best climbed during the spring and autumn.
Notes. Mostly single-pitch sport routes; the area is well-bolted and maintained by the local climbing community.
Timna Park

Timna Park offers unique sandstone climbing in the Negev Desert, characterized by dramatic red rock formations and desert landscapes. The area provides a mix of traditional and sport routes on highly textured, aesthetic sandstone.
Access. Located north of Eilat, the park is accessible by car. Best visited during the cooler winter months; accommodation is available in Eilat or at the park's designated camping areas.
Notes. Trad routes require a full rack; check local park regulations regarding seasonal closures for nesting birds.
