Rising dramatically over the strait, the limestone cliffs of the Upper Rock provide dramatic sport and trad climbing with sweeping Mediterranean views. Routes range from technical vertical walls to steep overhangs on highly featured pockets.
Access. Approach via the Upper Rock Nature Reserve gates. A short walk from downtown Gibraltar leads to the various crags such as The Rock Gun and Vanguard Cave. Local climbing information and gear can be coordinated through regional British and Andalusian climbing communities just across the Spanish border.
Notes. Nature reserve entry fees apply, and certain sectors have seasonal nesting restrictions to protect native bird species. Best climbed during spring and autumn to avoid intense summer heat.
