Climbing in Fiji
Including Tavua Volcanic Crags. On the map.
The vibe
Climbing here is not a standard destination activity, as the volcanic rock is often too brittle or overgrown to support established sport routes. There is no real climbing culture or infrastructure for visitors to tap into, making it a poor choice for those seeking a dedicated rock trip. You are much better off focusing your energy on the water.

Located in the northern Viti Levu region, these volcanic rock formations offer a unique tropical climbing experience. The area features a small but dedicated scene for sport climbing on weathered basalt, providing technical face climbing in a lush island setting.
Access. Access is via the town of Tavua; climbers should coordinate with local Fiji climbing community groups or the Fiji Mountaineering Association for current route conditions and access permissions.
Notes. The rock can be brittle; check local route beta for loose blocks. Best climbed during the cooler, drier season from May to October.
