There is no established rock climbing culture here, and the volcanic basalt is often too loose or crumbly to support a safe ascent. You would be better off focusing your energy on the island's steep hiking terrain rather than looking for a crag.

Mount Kartala is the highest point in Comoros and offers challenging volcanic rock climbing on its massive caldera rim. It is a destination for experienced climbers seeking remote, high-altitude adventure in a tropical setting.
Access. Access is via the village of Boboni on Grande Comore. Guides are mandatory for the trek to the summit area; travelers should bring all technical gear as there are no local climbing shops.
Notes. The rock is loose volcanic basalt; requires advanced route-finding skills and self-sufficiency.
