The vibe
Liberia’s coastline feels raw and uncurated, with wide stretches of sand edged by mangroves that give a sense of openness you rarely find on more developed shores. Buchanan Beach in Liberia's second-largest port city provides a scenic and tranquil coastal stretch with gentle waves and broad sandy banks. It is an ideal spot for long walks and unwinding away from the busier capital bustle.
Access. Located about a 2.5-hour drive southeast of Monrovia via the paved Monrovia-Buchanan highway. Basic local amenities and guesthouses are available in the city.

Robertsport Beach sits along Liberia's dramatic western cape, offering sweeping golden sand shores backed by lush, verdant hills. While globally famous for its world-class surf breaks, the expansive coastline also provides great opportunities for beachgoers looking for wide, uncrowded stretches of sand.
Access. Accessible via a 3-4 hour drive from Monrovia on partly unpaved roads. The relaxed fishing town offers basic guesthouses and local eateries near the shore.
Notes. Strong rip currents can occur; swimmers should exercise caution outside of protected coves.
