The vibe

It is a year-round destination, though the humidity drops significantly during the cooler months from May to October. You will find a mix of quiet, secluded stretches and more social areas near the main road, but the overall atmosphere remains refreshingly low-key and uncrowded.

Access. Located near the main village and wharf area of Aitutaki, easily reached by scooter or car.
Black Rock Beach, Rarotonga

Black Rock (Tuoro) is a unique swimming spot featuring large, dramatic volcanic boulders that contrast with the soft sand and azure water. It is a culturally significant site that offers a different aesthetic from the typical white-sand beaches of the region.
Access. Located on the northwest coast of Rarotonga, easily accessible from the main road with ample parking.
Notes. The currents can be stronger here than in the protected lagoons; swim with caution.
One Foot Island Beach, Aitutaki

Located on a tiny motu within the spectacular Aitutaki Lagoon, this beach offers blindingly white sand and some of the clearest water in the South Pacific. It is a quintessential tropical paradise where the sand is powdery and the water remains calm year-round.
Access. Reached via a short boat excursion or lagoon cruise from the main island of Aitutaki.
Notes. Visitors can get their passports stamped at the tiny post office on the island.
Titikaveka Beach, Rarotonga

Titikaveka is renowned for having some of the clearest water on the main island, making it a favorite for those who want a serene swimming experience. The beach features soft, light-colored sand and a wide, deep lagoon area that is excellent for swimming.
Access. Accessible by the main island coastal road; many beachfront holiday homes are located directly on the sand.
Notes. The water here is deeper than at Muri, providing a better experience for actual swimming.
