Ibarra and Yahuarcocha

Tena and Jatunyacu River

Tena serves as the primary base for exploring the upper Amazon rainforest, with the Jatunyacu River offering world-class whitewater rafting. The river is famous for its large, fun rapids and crystal-clear water flowing from the Andes.
Access. Tena is a 4-5 hour drive from Quito. Numerous specialized rafting outfitters operate daily trips to the Jatunyacu and nearby rivers.
